Important Maintenance Tasks before Going on a Road Trip

Now that summer is in full swing and the country's top attractions are reopening, it's especially tempting to embark on a road trip. Before you pack your bags and hit the highway, your car should be properly prepared to handle days of long miles in blazing heat. At Advanced Transmission Rebuilding, our local mechanics can conduct maintenance tasks that will thoroughly prepare your vehicle for the open road.

Road Trip Auto Maintenance Tasks

To help your car with keeping the heat in check, there are certain types of maintenance that should be completed. During AC service, we'll inspect your AC system and make sure that all of its components are working properly. When the sun really cranks up the heat, a healthy AC system will play a vital role in keeping your family cool, comfortable, and in good spirits. Another way to help your car beat the heat is with cooling system service, which will help to minimize the risk of overheating causing serious engine trouble. It's generally recommended that coolant gets exchanged every 30,000 miles, though you can check your owner's manual to see your vehicle's exact mileage points for this service.

Prior to hopping on the highway, you'll want to be sure that your car can be trusted to keep you as safe as possible. When you get brake service, we'll check over your whole braking system and replace pads if needed. If we find any major brake trouble, we can repair it, and would be happy to provide you an estimate in advance. For optimal safety during your adventure, you should also make sure you're driving with correct tire pressure. Generally, tire pressure needs to be at a point between 30 and 35 psi. It's worth checking your tires to see their exact pressure specification and then inflating them accordingly. With proper tire pressure, there's significantly less risk of a blowout occurring. You can also easily boost safety by replacing old wiper blades. If you cross paths with a severe thunderstorm while on your journey, your new wiper blades will make it easier for you to safely see the road ahead.
